Hallo und Guten Tag von Deutschland!!
Hi everyone! SOOO I decided to make this blog so I could keep you all updated on what I'm up to here in Europe!! So far, it's been a pretty awesome. I feel like I have to keep pinching myself to see if I'll wake up! It seems so surreal.
My flight over here was long, but good. On the plane the guy sitting next to me was younger and super nice so we just talked and watched movies the whole flight, which made the flight a lot more interesting. They served delicious food, and free alcholic beverages! I had a glass of wine, Baileys on the rocks (which they especially came around and served...!!!) and another mixed drink. It was a pretty different experience. Drinking is so much more normal here, you see wine being sold in the general supermarket! And both times I had wine, it was DELICIOUS!!
So anyways, I flew in to Basel, Switzerland at about 10:30am, and was picked up by a driving service which drove me to Freiburg. I got to practice some of my German with the driver, so that was fun. But when we got to the dorms, he dropped me off and then just left, and I was all alone. I guess the director of the program was a little late coming to meet me, so I was standing around with my luggage and thinking to myself, WHAT AM I GOING TO DO I AM BY MYSELF AND I HAVE NO CLUE WHERE I AM. It was kindof funny actually. But the director found me pretty soon and then all was good. I was then given the keys to my room and had some time to crash and freshen up before going shopping and dinner.
At dinner we went to this AMAZING restaurant, and I had the best pasta and scallops ever. We were probably there for about 4 hours. That's another thing I've noticed about the culture here: first off, dinner starts alot later than in the states or Canada, and second, they really take their time. You could easily spend 3 hours at a meal. It's pretty cool. Two of the students from the school came along with us too, and it was really fun getting to know them. One of the guys is a bassist who loves prog metal, and we've already made plans to jam so that'll be SCHWEET!!!
Today we had an orientation and tour of the school, and it looks like it'll be pretty awesome. The practice rooms are super nice and big, so that'll be good. I have a pretty chill schedule, and I've even got Fridays off, so it'll be super good for travelling, which I am very excited about. Tonight we'll be going to a more traditional German restaurant for supper, and then I think we'll go out to a local club to check out the nightlife scene here, so that should be fun. Pretty excited.
Well that's all for now folks. I'll post pictures when I have more to post :) I miss you and love you all!
